One-of-a-kind Cues

This six-point cue with four veneers is truly one of a kind, and one that I will never make again. Every part of this cue was inlaid with an X-Acto knife. The large points were inlaid and the cue turned down and left to season, then the small points were inlaid. Again, the cue was turned down and seasoned before the ivory points were inlaid into the ebony points. The butt contains three 17-piece split-ivory and veneer windows, and three double-veneered, reversed ivory points. (These multi-piece inlays were made by sawing and sanding the ivory, then gluing each piece of veneer, one at a time, into place.) Three small ivory diamonds are inlaid at the ends of the points. All of these windows, points, and diamonds were hand inlaid. The A, B, C, D, and E rings are 12-piece ivory in ebony, capped by ebony and sterling silver rings. The joint rings are phenolic and the joint is stainless steel with a 14 thread screw. The construction of this cue spanned a period of eight years with about 150 hours actual work on the cue. During most of the last 145 hours, I couldn't make any slips with the knife or chisels. Any slip would result in disaster, for I was using enough pressure that the false cut would be too deep and the work would be ruined. Two ivory ferruled shafts and matching joint protectors are provided with this cue.
